Key West Car Rental Age Requirements

In Florida, most companies rent to drivers aged 21 and over, and some independent operators set their own floor at 23 or 25. Specialty inventory — convertibles, Jeeps, luxury cars and large vans — commonly carries a higher minimum than standard cars, regardless of the company's general policy.

Drivers under 25 usually pay a daily surcharge on top of the rental rate. Because it is charged per day, it can add a meaningful amount to a week-long booking, and it is often shown late in the checkout flow. Ask for the all-in total when you enquire.

Every person who will drive must be listed on the agreement and meet the same requirements, including the age minimum. An unlisted driver typically voids coverage entirely — a serious risk on a two-lane highway.

Bring your passport and your home licence. If your licence is not in English, carry an international driving permit alongside it. A credit card in the renter's own name is normally required for the security hold; debit cards are often refused or subject to extra checks.
